Sparrowhawk realizes that the shadow is really a part of himself, and so he calls it "Ged", and then the two battle it out with Sparrowhawk defeating the shadow (symbolism is in play here- this is where he truly overcomes what happened to the Archmage)

The shadow's true name was Ged.
